It very well may.  Perhaps I'll try that out soon.  :)  Specifically,
the *ist doesn't like to auto focus this lens.  I'd read about people
thinking the motor was a bit on the weak side, but this was my first
experience with very, very slooow auto focus.  It also doesn't balance
well with the *ist.  There are some remarks over at Stan's site about
folks not liking this lens on MZ bodies for that very reason.  The
PZ-1 likes it, though!  And that's all that matters.

Just to compare, the PZ-1 with F100-300 attached weighs 8 oz more than
the PZ-1 and FA28-80(p), one pound more than the K100D with 18-55, and
1 lb 10 oz more than the *ist with FA28-90.
