I don't think you're seeing .jpeg artifacts. The original raws had a somewhated raggedy edge to the moon as well, due I'm sure to atmospheric distortion, the moon being so low on the horizon, and looking through so much ripply atmosphere with a 500mm lens. I did attempt some smoothing, but gave up, sitting at work trying to use a touchpad mouse. Thanks.
