I can't directly answer your question, as I tend to steer clear of Sigma. But last year when I was at a camera store I only rarely visit I had a play with the Sigma 100-300 f4 APO (non DG version) that they had in store. I only took 2 shots with it at the 100 & 300 FL's. For what they're worth here they are, (straight from the camera nothing done except watermark & compression level 5) :
