I am sorry, but John Francis is right.
The new Mini was already 99% designed by Rover when BMW bought the Rover
company from BAE Systems (British Aerospace).
Prototypes were already running and spy shots clearly showing the car (just as
you can buy it now) were in car magazines some months before BMW took over
Rover. And the final details were completed by ex-Rover British engineers
now employed by BMW.
So the Mini is a British design, British built. Just as John Francis wrote.
It is also BMW's most reliable model.
