I wish I could help you with the comparison, but only have and use the A 70-210/4. It is an excellent lens and is even useable wide open. It should be noted that this is a one-touch zoom meaning that you focus and zoom with the same single ring. If you practice, this can be very fast to do, however, on a tripod, it is easier to get zoom creep. I am not sure about the Vivitar concerning the A setting. That would be a consideration of mine also. If the Vivitar is a pure manual lens, most of the exposure modes would not be available.
