what I dont understand is if you put the light gray
card in a shot to use for adjusting the WB or color
balance later in post processing, how do you transfer
the correct adjustment ( settings? ) to the next image ( the desired
image)
that doesnt have the light gray card in the scene?

OK, now I'm getting somewhere. I've had less than 300 shutter releases
using 
RAW, most were in a controlled environment (testing lenses etc) where
I've 
shot film over some 16 years, it was easy to adjust the white balance
there, 
now I'm just getting adjusted with my first few outdoor shots, thanks
for the 
help.
