Mine definitely has a deeper more cavenous sound, to me it seems more intrusive than the *ist D, I first noticed it shooting at 1/100 sec, maybe I'm hearing SR doing it's job at the same time. Don't get me wrong it doesn't have the slap of a KX or anything near it, but I find it distracting.
