Yes, curves.  Maybe it's all a matter of taste.  The problem I am having is 
that when I get the contrast I *think* I want, I also get more noise than I 
desire.

The photo works pretty well as a sepia tone.

My eyes seem to tell me that both your version and my new version have 
similar contrast, but mine is a higher key than your rendering.
