The instructors mentioned that if the lens is of sufficient size to make mounting camera to lens easier than lens to camera, then that was the best way to do it. A good example of this is something along the lines of a super telephoto (600mm or longer) or a very fast long telephoto (300/2.8, 400/2.8, etc). My experience with big glass is pretty limited, but I do find mounting my camera to my 600mm lens, it just makes more sense to put camera to lens and twist lock the camera body rather than trying to twist lock the lens. Not sure who you were responding to, as you removed that information, but they might want to rethink their strategy.
