I don't include "titles" when work is displayed in an exhibit.
Location, date (often) and media usually.
In many cases, I include title and location particulars stuck to the
back on an Avery label. I, also, use a commercial sticker which
includes, name, email, phone and website address.
I use thumbnails on my website only as gallery identifiers. All images
within each gallery, carry a title. I do this to connect the viewer to
the image in what I hope is a positive way, but try to keep them light
and at a low level of drama.
I have seen exhibited work that actually came alive only after I began
to read the titles. Didn't think I needed them to appreciate any image,
but found that it can make a difference. In one instance, I went back
and reexamined all images from the beginning and left with a new
appreciation.
