My comments were based on RAW capture. I do not see it coming close to neg film, the exposure is more critical than that, even with RAW capture. It just cant capture high contrasty scenes the way neg film can. I never stated anything about slide films which are, of course, more critical than neg films.

ACR can recover highlights within limits. It bases it's recovery on what's available in other channels. When shooting RAW I've brought back some detail that might not otherwise have been visible. The same is true of shadow detail. Once you learn to work with RAW, you'll find you can extend the dynamic range well beyond what slide film can record and close to what the best negative films can achieve.
