Reviews of more advanced digital cameras (e.g., Fuji 6900 and Minolta
Dimage 7 in the current Popular Photography) show that digital cameras
are capable of excellent low-noise performance. Both of these cameras
have electronic through the lens viewfinders. I doubt that this creates
any noise problem, since the image is electronically replicated, not like
light diverted to two different paths as in pellicle mirror SLRs.It has
to be admitted that the Pentax/HP collaboration is behind on
technology. The Pentax K system of SLRs from the MX through to the
MZ-5n had strong appeal, because of great design and great lenses.
However, in digital cameras the non-interchangeable electronic pick-up
is the key. It doesn't make sense to stick with Pentax because just
because it is Pentax, when it has no particular expertise in this
non-optical field.
