Thanks!
It's a stop faster and it's about the same size as the DA21 and DA70.
There's enough space for me to work the focusing ring, in other
words: the DA40 is just too thin for my comfort. I would have
preferred a lens with the Quickshift focusing mount.
More thoughts:
I've gone back and forth on the 40-43 mm focal length in my
thinking ... it's a little long and yet a little short. I'd also
heard people saying that the 43mm was not especially sharp,
particularly when wide open. I already have the FA35/2 and FA50/1.4.
But I liked the size and speed: decided to give it a go. I figured
that if it really didn't cut it compared to the 35 and 50, there's
enough of a market that I could sell it for what I paid, or if it
worked out then selling the 35 and 50 will pay for it and then some.
Took my first walk with it today and shot a few exposures around the
house. f/1.9 is a little bit soft but not unpleasantly so, much like
the FA28. Stopped down just half a stop and it snaps into great
sharpness and the out of focus rendering is stunning, again much like
the FA28.
I'll work with it for a few days yet before I make a final decision,
but I think the kit outlined by my FoV - Focal Length graph ::
http://homepage.mac.com/godders/FoVs-Pentax-DSLR.jpg
is it ... I have everything there now and will sell off the rest. All
of it, except the DA14, fits in a very compact bag and is remarkably
light weight. Perfect for my uses.
I guess I should take a family portrait of all the goodies, eh? :-)
