I've photo'ed that chruch too, before there was a restriction on asking
permission.

I think yours cries out for conver to black and white - which will
emphasize the
story there -

The last time I was actually at the pueblo was 1994 - I was driving my
ex boss at
general Electric and her mom around the southwest as a kind of a tour
guide. So we had to go...
but it was very sad to see.

I lived in Taos for almost 3 months in 1956 and didn't go to the pueblo
at all then because I thought
it was rude to go and gape . 19 years old and idealistic.

Well, once upon a time, when I was a kid anyway, they closed off the
sections that were heavily lived in and you were limited to only more open
sections
of the pueblo.

And before casinos, tourism and selling jewelry and such, was their major
source of income. Selling jewelry and stuff -- they still make money on that.
But when I was there I talked to sort of a gallery owner, and he said most
like working in casinos now and it's hard to get young Indians to take up
producing art. (Indian art is protected by state laws, one can't sell "Indian
Art" u
nless it is actually made by Indians. They had just busted a ring of Indians
(eastern-style, i.e. next to Pakistan) that was cranking out art, the
previous year.)

Still I did see a lot of Indian art there in galleries. High priced.
However, I deliberately bought a few things at the pueblo and at the
Governor's
Gallery in Santa Fe (where they sit on blankets), so they would get the total
profit and not have to give a gallery a commission. Also those were the ones
that were really doing it full time and more seriously. At least it looked
that
way.

Okay, I think, from reactions this picture would work best in a gallery, but
not as a standalone.
