To be honest I have very few Washington, DC monuments and buildings type 
pictures...  I do think that Sydney is the most beautiful city on the 
planet and I fell in love with the place when I first visited my 
then-soon-to-be-wife in early 2000.  As someone mentioned a while back 
in regards to a Bridge-and-Opera-House shot I showed here, there were 
practically foot prints to stand in to take the shot.  All that was 
missing was the Kodak "photo spot" sign.

As for the oversharpening, I used bicubic sharpening in the rendering 
and the web resize, perhaps that caused the artifacts you saw.  I also 
did a fair amount of clone-stamp spot removal (damn sensor).
