That's very true. I would guess that ninety-five percent or more of 
those who derive all or nearly all of their income from photography 
barely eek out a living. Any expense has to be carefully considered.
Even some big-dollar pros are hurting these days. For example, car 
shooters are seeing more and more of their work go to computer graphics 
labs these days. Today's computer tools make it fairly easy for a good 
CG artist to generate a perfect image of a car using CATIA data from 
the manufacturer's engineering department. No studio cost, no 
transportation cost, less support staff, and a result that can be quite 
impressive. I would guess that up to 40% of the cars you now see in ads 
and on direct mail are computer generated. Even some of those you see 
in television commercials are computer generated. This technique is now 
being used for other product work as well.
