Because a shorter focal length - especially whan you have to cope with a 
long register  for accomodating the mirror - needs a complex lens 
construction.

Smaller format DSLR gain compactness on the longer focal lengths and lose it 
on the short end. APS is probably the best balance (a 14-300 outfit is way 
smaller than a 21-500 or so for 35mm), while a FourThirds outfit needs a 
10-250 range.

Then, adding the extra speed needed for balancing the worse signal/noise 
ratio of smaller-size pixels, makes the FourtThirds a much debatable 
solution. I think it's just too small to work effectively and be ready for 
the future (as it's boasted to be). APS within a FF-ready system is much 
better, IMHO.
