I have tried my site from 3 different PCs on 3 different networks, and my experience has been the same on all of them: the background displays immediately, the thumbnail pages take 2-5 seconds to display fully, the large files take about 1 second to display fully. Displaying the .jpg without all the surrounding gubbins takes about 1 second. Two of the PCs/networks I've tried it on are behind banking levels of security. One on of them each page round-trip involves a trip out of Europe and back again.
These response times for me are in line with most other pdmlers' sites, including yours, Peter. Some peoples' sites are very significantly slower for me; others won't load at all, but I attribute that to my strict security policies. I've even browsed my site with my mobile phone (Windows Mobile), and not had a particularly slow experience. There isn't enough information for me to go on to make things better for the people who've had slow responses from the site. The information people have given me isn't enough to determine whether there's a genuine problem that I can do something about, if so whether it's my ISP, whether it's the fact that I'm using Lightroom, or whether there's some problem at your end.
