We don't have a Mayor, we have a town meeting/selectman system. I remember well the year I was campaign manager for the Libertarian candidate. Meet the candidates night:
Question: How would each of you candidates increase the tax base: Democratic candidate: 10 minutes about creating a fairer and more equitable tax climate, (translation raise taxes on beach property and summer residents)... Audience: Polite Applause. Republican candidate 15 minutes on creating a more inviting business climate, (translation get some light industry in here to pay taxes, so we don't have to raise tax rates on shore properties and summer residents) Audience: Polite Applause.
