There's an awful lot of people in India.

My experience in India was that people were happy to be photographed,
and I never felt unsafe anywhere. At a burning ghat I was even invited
by a couple of men who were cremating their mother to take photos of
the ritual. Which I did.

The only time anyone ever expressed a contrary view was when a Brahmin
tried to stop me from photographing people with begging bowls outside
a temple. His opinion was that photographers should only show good
things. My opinion is that I should photograph what I see, and produce
a balanced view of a country.

Oh, and another time someone politely asked me not to take photos
inside a temple, so I didn't.
