This ain't rocket science Jack. The process is just like installing a
new piece of software on your PC. Hell even I managed to figure it out
:-)

- Download this file to your desktop:
<http://www.digital.pentax.co.jp/ja/dls/FIRMWARE/k10e111w.exe>
All this file basically is, is a self extracting zip file.

(The above file is found at the link on the bottom of this page:

- Once the file "k10e111w.exe" has finished downloading, double click on it.

- A window will pop up that says:

"WinSFX32M V2.80.5.12

Install Directory:

"C:\Documents and Settings\USER\Desktop" (USER being your log on
account name on you computer)"

- Click OK

- You should now have 2 new files on your desktop, FWDC162B.BIN & README.TXT.

- Format a card in the camera.

- Put the freshly formatted card in your card reader.

- Using Windows Explorer, open the card. (I don't know how it works in
Vista, but on XP the card shows up in Windows Explorer as "Removable
Disk (X:)" (with (X:) being the next available disk drive letter on my
computer)

- With the card open in Windows Explorer you should see a folder named
"DCIM" (IGNORE this folder), and nothing else. Copy the FWDC162B.BIN
file onto the card (NOT into the "DCIM" folder).

- When the file has finished copying, you will now see the "DCIM"
folder & the file FWDC162B.BIN.

- Take the card out of your card reader and put it into the camera (be
sure the camera is turned off).

- While holding down the "Menu" button turn the camera on.

- After a few seconds you will be asked if you want to install the new
firmware, select OK.

- The camera will now install the firmware.

- Once the firmware installation is complete turn the camera off and
take the card out of the camera.

- In Windows Explorer open the card and delete the FWDC162B.BIN file.

If all has gone well the camera will now have the latest firmware
installed. To check, turn the camera on while holding down the "Menu"
button.

If your still having difficulty given the instructions above, I
suggest you go to your local camera store and have them show you how
it's done. I can't "dumb down" the procedure any further.

Dave

P.S.

WRT to my use of the term "Root". Have you ever seen this type of
thing in Windows Explorer when you were trying to find a file?:

C:\
----Documents and Settings
-------User
----------My Documents
-------------My Pictures
----------------Cat Photos
-------------------Happy Cat.jpg

This is called a directory tree. The file "Happy Cat.jpg" is a piece
of new growth at the top of the tree. The folders, such as "My
Documents", are branches of the tree. C:\ is the "root" directory from
which the tree has grown.

So when I was asking if you had copied the FWDC162B.BIN into the root
directory of your SD card, this is what I was talking about. I was
assuming that you hadn't copied the FWDC162B.BIN into any of the
folders that were on the memory card.
