I've been patching *nix servers for weeks. Everything on the OS side (including my winders XP laptop) rolled forward properly (1am status calls; gotta love those) The problem we had is that Sybase databases were inconsistent. Some rolled forward with the OS, some stayed on EST for no apparent reason. Had to restart tons of DBs to make them read the OS time. Stupid vendor issued no warnings or recommendations, only said that if the OS was OK they'd be OK too. I even tested some before hand and of course the ones I tested on 5 flavors of Unix, worked. I was cranky this morning... I went to bed at 6am EDT after a 5 hour conference call with my colleagues. WARNING! CONSPIRACY THEORY BELOW So apparently, when Americans have an extra hour of daylight after work they like to shop. The US chamber of commerce is a huge proponent for changing DST to an earlier date. Business make a lot of money from it... Also, if Americans aren't shopping, guess what they do? They go out. To the parks, etc. How do they get there (and shopping too)? Yeah, they drive and burn a lot more gasoline. Big oil LOVES DST.
