One of my favorite "bloke-ish" "jokes" wasn't even really a joke. When I was going back and forth to Scotland back around '94 or so, the (?) Royal Bank of Scotland was the only one of the "issuing banks" in the U.K. to still issue paper single quid notes. The local Scots kept referring to the one quid coin "from down South" as "a Maggie" or several "Maggies". When I finally asked about it, to a person they said it was because the thing was "dumb, ugly, and thinks it's a sovereign". :-) I must say that it's probably the least aesthetically pleasing coin I've ever encountered.
