I think that the subject and composition are great.  

Now for some fun stuff.  This image cried out to me to be converted into
black and white.  Forgive me in advance for tampering with your image, but I
did an extreme version and posted it here:

This one almost looks infrared.  At least some of the muzziness is the
channel mixer interacting with jpeg compression artifacts.  I think you'd be
able to get much, much better quality results by working with the original
image.
