Then you need to figure out how they can have such a wide difference in MTF
test results. Just because they have the same optical groups doesn't mean
they actually have the same lenses in them. While the FA-50/1.4 overall
rating of 4.2 is nothing to sneeze at the F-50/1.4 rating of 4.6 makes it
just about the best 50 ever tested by Photodo. Even the F-50/1.7 tested to
4.4.
While my own tests indicates that differences as much as .5 in the ratings
are hard to tell even in blowups you have to decide on your own if what you
have works for you.
Wouldn't be the first time a camera maker changed glass formulations to save
a buck or two in later generation of the same lens. Especially if you can't
tell much difference shooting.
