The DA 16-45 is pretty much my "standard" lens on the K10D. As
someone whose primary preferred FOV had always been that which you
get on 35mm film with a 100mm lens, I passed through 35mm lenses to
28mm to 24mm to 20mm a few years ago. (I blame it on this group and a
few people who kept talking about Wide angle as the place to be.) I
had nicely settled into the FA20-35 when along came the *ist-D and
the 16-45. In my regular set, I still carry the 77mm and a 100mm
macro, both of which are frequently used. I have a 200mm macro and a
300mm that I pull out when I am headed out for wild flowers or
wildlife. But I tend more to wide than long anymore. In that context,
I can attest that the 14mm is definitely wider than the 16-45. And
there were more than a few occasions on my recent trip where it was
worth pulling that big monster out of my bag to get a shot I couldn't
with the 16-45. I am not even slightly tempted by the 12-24, but a
12-30 would catch my attention!

I haven't done the count yet, but I suspect that on my recent trip,
the primary lens used was the 16-45, followed closely by the 21mm,
the 77mm, and the DA 50-200mm, followed then by the FA43mm, the
DA100mm and DA14mm as ones getting only very occasional use. I also
had along a K30mm and K120mm, each of which I used a few times,
mostly to justify my decision to take them along.

Bottom line, all good lenses. The zooms could be faster, and I have
orders in for the new zooms coming out. But the quality of my photos
is limited by my eye and my technique, not by limitations of any of
these lenses. And, yes, you do need a 14mm as part of your kit.
