I've used Carbon Copy Cloner successfully in the past. The version I  
had proved troublesome when Mac OS X v10.4 came out, but Mike Bombich  
has since done several updates.

The other way is to use Apple Software Restore (asr). This is  
included with your system. Instructions for use are available in man  
pages: type in a Terminal window

 > man asr

for full documentation.
