Sorry ... Many cars with belt-driven cam shafts require that the belts
be replaced at 60,000 miles, or 100,000 miles.  The chain on my
Mercedes needs replacing at about 100,000 miles.  I agree that belts
are used for cost issues and because they are lighter and use less
power.  But those are incidental to the discussion about longevity and
overall durability.

But the belt still has to be replaced at regular intervals.
