I have a Canon 50mm 1.8 and there is no doubt that is fast. I may, in the
long run, go for the 50mm 1.4 just to have an equivalent lens in my Pentax
kit.
Normally I like zooms, but I think it's a good idea to have at least one
fast prime that can handle low light. But fast is a relative term when you're
used to zooms.

Thanks everyone for your input. Glad to hear the DA 40 is optically good and
focuses fast, William. But overall it sounds like the DA 40 would not be
anyone's first choice for what I have envisioned.

So I will take my longer A zooms and see if I can hide and shoot from a
distance. I have two places in mind that I'd like to try some people shots.
Another suggestion was that I also try the 16-45 DA that I have and see what
focal
length I usually end up at for an eventual shorter length prime. Good idea,
thanks, Bruce.

Thanks everyone for your input, and I will just remain undecided for now.

Although I really wish that 50-200 DA would come (get back in stock and then
get sent). One thing, you know, when I was buying Canon lenses I didn't have
this out of stock problem. But you guys probably don't want to hear that. ;-)

Later, Marnie aka Doe
