Yes, it is a bit harsh. Contrast was quite high in the sunlight :-)

Yes, I went back to the RAW conversion (CS2) and noticed that
allthough there where no real 'blown highlights', reducing the
exposure a bit distributes the whites a bit better giving a more
pleasing image, with a bit more detail in the whites ...
