I did try The Gimp before I bought my MacBook, however, to me it was
fairly cumbersome. I don't actually know what I am doing, so add that
to learning a fairly comlex system, I ended in frustration. Lightroom
on the otherhand, has a pretty intuitive interface and I have been
able to figure out a lot more bu just fiddleing than I ever did with
the GIMP. Also, my personal feeling is that as this is my hobby, I
need to be just as concerned with efficiency as I would if it was my
profession because of the limited amount of time I am able to give to
it. With my current method, it takes me anywhere from 30 mins to an
hour to process one photo and post to my site. Because I have to
process, export, hand-code (which I am not good at :), upload,
trouble-shoot, etc. Wheras with Lightroom everything is integrated
and I can see that once I am up to speed on everything that it should
save me tons of time behind the computar so I can spend more time
shooting, which is worth $200 to me.

All to say... that's just my opinion.
