I don't have it anymore, but I once owned the Sigma 70~300 APO Super. The latest Digital version is a little more expensive, but still very affordable. I truly wonder what the diff is compared to the regular version. Anyway, I found it to be a VG to E+ lens, especially when factoring in price. If he isn't a pixel peeper and doesn't make prints bigger than 13x19 he would probably like it.
