I once got a snail mail notice that one of my songs' titles was
infringing on a trademark. The business sending the letter offered to
"forgive" the "infringement" for a one-time payment of four thousand
dollars and threatened to refer the matter to their lawyers if I didn't
pay up.

The obvious tip-off, even had I been ignorant of legal specifics, was
the threat to refer the matter to their lawyers - in a real
infringement case I would have received a letter *from* the lawyers.

I thought of explaining them that *titles* of creative works are not
covered by either copyright or trademark, but then I realized they
already knew that.

So I briefly considered composing a letter consisting of
"Hahahahahahah..." covering an entire page. But in the end I just
decided to ignore them as not being worth the effort. That was around
six years ago, IIRC, and the song's still on my web site.
