If you cut/saw the second filter slot (the one furtherst from the lens) off
the holder you can decrease the chance of vignetting. I experimented with
this one time because I had to take some photos with the Cokin filter mounted
on a fairly thick circular filter which was in turn on a Tokina 20-35mm lens
set at 20mm. This rig consisted of the camera, the lens (which takes a 72mm
filter), 72mm circular filter, Cokin stepup ring, large Cokin filter holder
with square filter in first slot and second slot removed. Even with all this
stuff on the front of the lens I managed to avoid vignetting at, I believe,
all f stops.
