Naah - Dire Straits are pretty much a London band. I never saw them perform, but I remember them playing pubs and clubs in the late 70s. And, let's face it, "The Princess Bride" wouldn't be the same movie without that Mark Knopfler score and soundtrack. In any case, popular music had gone to hell in a handbasket well before the '80s. The 70s might have had Pink Floyd, but they also had Mungo Jerry ... Don't forget, though, that the Aussies do have to bear most of the responsibility for the Bee Gees.
