Thanks a lot to the person who recommended
the PK/M42 adapter modification so that **automatic-
only** M42 lenses could be used on DSLRs stopped
down.

That link was :

Anyway, I gave it a try using some plastic material
I had around the house to make the flat ring with
44mm O.D. and 36mm I.D. and
it works fine ( probably temporary - doubt if
it would take the wear and tear of the repeated pin friction
on lens installation).

I got to try one of my favorite film lenses on
the istDs for the first time, the 85mm f1.7
Auto SX M42 lens and I caught this
squirrel in the back yard by chance:

ISO200, F5.6/ shutter speed on auto via AV mode,
(not noted, too lazy to check file info). Not a
great shot, but it does show the lens is pretty
good IMHO. Sharp and smooth bokeh (at least in
this particular shot, havent tried it worst case
yet).

I like the lens on digital too. Fooling around
with these M42 lenses can be pretty fun especially
now that I can use ANY M42 lens on AV or manual
modes, even those with automatic only apertures
without having to modify the lenses. I have a whole
bunch to try....
