Formating SD cards seems to just re-write the directory information.  PC 
Inspector Smart Recovery, (www.convar.com) doesn't seem to have any 
trouble finding the data.  You will have to supply the file type you're 
recovering and the version I'm using doesn't support PEFs so Tiff is the 
reasonable default.
