Brendan. Have I ever told you that I love you?
Thank you very much for this effort to save my ass. If it gets burned, it
will definately not be because of you.

Subject: Re: Wireless with K10D, for a flash novice (Kind of urgent)

As far as the setup goes, it sounds do-able.
Definitely bounce the flashes if you can. Just make
sure the cieling isn't to high...shoot a few frames to
test. I normally shot in AV mode when shooting with
wirleless flashes.

The 540 is really simple to trigger wirelessly. Set
the flash mode on the K10D from the fn menu to
wireless. Also make sure that the mode in the Custom
Settings menu is set to have the built-in flash set as
master or controller. In Controller mode, the one I
use most often, you're not getting a full burst from
the camera. It will fire only to trigger the other
flashes (in slave mode, which is what you've figured
out already; the middle position of the on/off switch
on the 540). If you need the built in camera flash to
be the main flash (to illuminate the end of the table
closest to you, for instance) set the Custom Setting
to Master. This will still control the other flashes
since they are set to slave mode.

Switching back and forth to have the built-in flash
fire requires going into the Custom Settings menu It's
on page 6 of 6 so it takes some getting to...no good
for quickly switching between modes. So, what I would
do is leave the camera in Master Mode. When you get
near the other flashes and therefore don't really need
the extra push of the built-in flash, you can cover it
up with a card or something (sometimes I put a stofen
diffuser over it...it looks weird but it works) and it
will still fire the other flashes without blowing out
your scene. But, you can also use the camera's EV
compensation for this in case your histogram shows
blown out highlights.
