If you're using photoshop to print, try letting the software run the
printer. The following are settings for PSCS. Godders has previously
posted some for PSCS 2. They're a bit different. In the PhotoShop
pull down menu of PSCS, go to "color settings." Set "settings" to
U.S. Prepress Defaults. Set Working space for RGB to Adobe RGB
(1998). Gray should be set to Dog Gain 20% and Spot to Dot Gain 20%.
Your BW print should be in RGB, 8 bit mode. In the Print with Preview
box, under "color management," the source space should be set to
"Document: Adobe RGB (1998). In "Print Space" choose the icc profile
for the paper you're using and set intent to relative colrimetric. In
the print box, choose the paper your using, go to print settings and
click advanced. Uncheck the high speed box and choose either best
photo or photo rpm. Go to Color Settings and turn color management
off. That should yield a print that matches the levels you see on
your monitor.
