Personally, I like #1 better. To my eye this shot is less well balances 
- too much of both the boats and the wetlands. On #1 my eye isn't 
fulfilled by either, so it moves around and explores the tension between 
  between the human made boat and the natural wetland. That reinforces 
the conceptual premise behind the shot. Here - I want to spend time on 
one or the other, so the tension is diminished.
