Putting a had on a bed is bad luck. (I remember it as someone will die, but that's probably my poor memory.) This one has stuck with me because it had somewhat of a factual basis. Tuberculous used to be rampant, and the idea was it could be transmitted by clothes. Such as a group of people come over for dinner for something, and they put their coats and hats on the bed, spreading germs to where people sleep. (Well, I am pretty sure that is the origin.) Buttered toast always falls buttered side down. Carrying an umbrella means it WON'T rain. Hmmm, not sure those last are actually myths. They do seem to be what happens. A sock lost in the dryer is never found.
