Hello Mike,

I would be pleased to meet you & wife when you are in Paris.

Unfortunately, at the date of today, you share a specific parisan problem
with thousands of people coming to Paris and looking for exactly the same
thing as you're looking for : a place to live, not too expensive, not too
badly located, not too far from city centre, etc.
The worse month to come is septemebre, as many students are seeking for a
room. Best is Januray when students who fail to follow the courses decide to
leave Paris. Some specialized newspaper can help you to find an appartment;
have a look to "particulier a particulier". They have a website which is
www.pap.fr. Otherwise go to yahoo.fr and make a search with
"location+appartement+paris"
For your information all big new cities around paris are what can be called
"the bad subburbs" such as (excuse me if some pdm listers live there) Evry,
Cergy-Pontoise, Velizy... I would not recommend that at the biginning. I
would recommend to start with a small appartment in Paris Itself, it's not
more expensive than in the close subburbs, and it has a central position.
Velizy is in the south-west subburbs, difficult to access by car / train
from Paris; the main 2 airports are Orly (south) and Roissy (north)
accessible by 2 big high ways

I hope it helps,

Do not hesitate to mail me off list for futher help

Cheers,

Cyril

Objet : OT: Relocating to Paris

I know this is way off topic, but I'd appreciate any pointers from someone
who's been there...

My girlfriend and I are probably (70%) relocating to Paris for 2+ years
starting in January. Our respective companies are handling the work visas,
her co. is picking up the moving bill, we just need to find a place to live.
Can anyone help with online resources for apartment rentals?
Neighborhoods to stay out of (crime, price)? How are the suburbs? My new
office will be in Velizy, her job is 80% travel through Europe. We're
headed over next month but want to have a look over the web now if
possible...

Any replies are appreciated, off-list is fine. Sorry for posting this to
the PDML but it's the only international list I'm on and my web searches
aren't bearing much fruit.

Mike Y.
