That was true twenty-five years ago. It's no longer the case. For example, the DA 12-24/4 is an excellent lens that compares quite favorably with the DA 14.2.8 at 14mm. The DA* lenses will be even better. I expect them to outperform a lot of the older Pentax primes on digital bodies. And of course they'll have better autofocus. They won't suck:-).
