Let's see, Land Rover. Yes, that was a rebodied US Military Jeep originally. Said Jeep being made by the millions by Willys, and Ford. Who got the contracts after American Austin designed it. Seeing how all this goes, AA probably stole the design from some farmer who actually built the first one in his barn.
Then American Austin went belly up, probably for lack of War Contracts. Willy sold out to Kaiser who sold out to American Motors, who sold out to Chrysler.... While rover sold out to BMC who sold out to BMW... Strangely both variants of the Jeep are still made in some form or another. Even I have to admit the things have an interesting history behind them.
