The word is a common surname in the Basque region of Spain. A catholic bishop 
named Javier E is at the head of the Opus Dei, Carlos and Emilio E. are actors, 
Renè E. a TV writer and producer. There are also a few historical figures with 
that surname.

It is spelled quite differently at times. The original is "Etxebarrìa", 
"Echevarrìa" (or "Echebarrìa")in Castillan.
