All I hear is that it is not as good as the 2400... But that  doesn't quite
answer my question unfortunately.  It has been a while,  but I remember
that quite a few of you had the 1280 as well and my guess is  that you've
since upgraded as well. So hopefully I can get some thoughts  based on
first hand experience. I could open the box and see for myself...  but of
course that would eliminate the prospect of an exchange.

I don't know the 1280, but I have the R1800  and often print on matte paper 
of some sort or other. I think my prints look  fantastic (well, when the 
pictures are good they do).
