I suspect that most of the commercial card readers have deeper sockets to align the card prior to them hitting the pin out now. At one time, I had three readers that were linked to my printer, one had a bent pin in the CF reader but otherwise still worked, one had a bent pin in the CF reader and nothing worked and one actually was working.
