I've bought three old Bowens strobes with the intention of doing some studio
style portraits. I'm wondering what the best way is of firing them.

I'm a little worried about connecting them directly via cable as the firing
voltage is 30v. That's fine for all my old film cameras but 30v is the
listed maximum for the *ist-D. If I have three strobes connected does that
remain 30v or am I suddenly dealing with 90v or three times the current?

The other options appear to be simple optical slaves, infra-red optical
slaves and radio slaves. I could just buy optical slaves for all three but I
wonder whether I will run into trouble using the onboard flash to trigger
everything, especially as one strobe will be hiding behind a 4 foot square
softbox. I can get a Chinese made radio slave set for $25 but would have to
buy three complete sets if I wanted to fire them all that way. Alternatively
I could fire one via radio and use optical slaves for the other two.

So for those people that use multiple strobes, what setup do you have and
why?

Thanks,
