The only problem with a linear polarizer is if the functioning of your camera depends on a semi-silvered mirror, (most do these days). If the meter is behind it, (Pentax LX OM2/4 etc.), you'll get inaccurate meter readings. If your autofocus sensors are behind it you'll get inaccurate or no auto focusing.
