I agree that Picasa is a great tool, specially for snaps when you don't want to 
spend too much time processing (also you can very easily upload pictures to 
their web site).

However, regarding Raw conversion and unless you only want to produce small 
prints, IMO there is a significant advantage of Rawshooter Essentials over 
Picasa. I converted the same ISO 800 image using both softwares at their 
default settings and the Picasa output looked clearly more grainy than the RS 
one.
(and Picasa don't have many options regarding raw conversion)

Maybe consider giving Picasa a try.
